During the Christmas season, spending time with family is a key necessity. For most, finding something to occupy your time can be difficult, so we have compiled a list of the best festive activities to amuse you and your family during the much welcomed long break.

  • Holiday in the Park

Six Flags Over Texas’ annual Christmas themed event is a great thing to do for families. The children are able to run around, enjoy rides, twinkling lights, hot apple cider, and sledding. The park opened on the 16th of November and will close December 30th so the time is now to enjoy a trip to Arlington.

  • Bake and Decorate Cookies

Roll up your shirt sleeves, and begin baking! Cooking a batch of Christmas cookies is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Whether you decorate some icy snowmen, or jolly Santa’s, the memories created while baking with your friends and family last a lifetime.

  • Ice Skating

This holiday season, strap on your skates and take a glide on the ice. Enjoy the skating rink at the Galleria Mall in Dallas, where you can skate around the tallest indoor Christmas tree in the U.S. or venture to Enchant Christmas in Arlington, and glide past large light displays on their ice skating trail. These are two of the many areas that offer this merry experience.

  • Christmas Movie Marathon

This year snuggle under a warm blanket and pull up your fuzzy socks to watch a Hallmark Christmas marathon. Watching the Christmas classics with some warm hot cocoa is just the thing to keep out the cold.

  • Volunteer: Hands of Compassion, Commerce Food Pantry, Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH)

If you’re feeling the need to give back this season and forego the gifts, volunteering your time at a local food pantry, or soup kitchen is the perfect way to spread the festive feeling. The above listed organizations are open to accepting help, and constantly looking for volunteers or donations to help those they serve.

  • The Zoo

This year a trip to the Dallas Zoo will make you feel as if you’re in a winter wonderland. Until January 1st from 5-9PM, after spending the day with the animals, the zoo will transform with hundreds of twinkling lights, as well as 3D animals!

  • Enchant Christmas Lights in Arlington

Over the break, head to Enchant Christmas in Arlington to explore the world’s largest Christmas light maze, drift along the ice skating trail, indulge in the hot cocoa and festive foods and stop by to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus. Tickets can be purchased up until December 30th at:

  • Secret Santa

Secret Santa is an marvelous way to have a jolly time. Whether the group choses to do White Elephant to have a laugh, this game brings people closer together no matter their background.
