Illinois underwent it’s coldest ever overnight temperature as a cold front brought in record breaking temperatures of -32 degrees. Last week the United States was engulfed in a Polar Vortex, which brings in lots of snow and ice. SciJinks.gov says, “A polar vortex is a low pressure area—a wide expanse of swirling cold air.” Although these typically stay in polar regions, they often expand during the winter, sending cold air southbound. While last week, the U.S. experienced unbearably freezing temperatures, it seems to be warming up monumentally in Texas this week. On Monday, February 4th, temperatures climbed as high as 79 degrees, but who knows how much the temperature will change in the coming days for the south.

The state of Texas experiences nearly every type of weather imaginable, no matter the season, and residents often joke about Texas’ temperamental weather. When asked about our weather, Mariah Gonner said, “The weather in Texas is almost as bipolar as my feelings about Senior year.” One thing’s clear, as a Texan, whether the weather is sunny or pouring rain, we need to be prepared for anything and everything.
